Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release

Gentle, hands-on therapy to relieve your pain.

In your body, there is an interwoven network of tissue called fascia. This covers all the muscles, bones and blood vessels. It is interconnected throughout the body forming large network sheets, much like plastic wrap. This tissue under a microscope is tubular and carries within it fluid. This gives the fascia tissue elasticity and strength. The purpose of the fascia is to give your body shape and form, allowing your muscles to move properly.

The fascia can become tight, dry and limiting in movement with stress, injury or prolonged strain. Many limitations in joint movement, such as shoulder or knee pain, can be attributed to poor myofascial mobility. In physical therapy, gentle hands on therapy can be performed to first locate the myofascial restrictions, then effectively treat them. Through gentle hands-on techniques, the fascia can be stretched and mobilized, leading to improved function and movement.

Myofascial release helps a variety of common conditions such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Soft tissue injury
  • Whiplash
  • Repetitive work injuries
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Loss of motion
  • Arthritis
  • Sciatica

  • And more
